Constructing Hyperbolic Metamaterials with Arbitrary Medium

Recent advances in hyperbolic metamaterials have spurred many breakthroughs the field of manipulating light propagation. However, unusual electromagnetic properties also put extremely high demands on its compositional materials. Limited by finite relative permittivity natural materials, effective constructed is confined to a narrow range. Here, based proposed concept structure-induced spoof surface plasmon, we prove that arbitrary materials can be selected construct with independent components. Besides, theoretical achievable ranges components are unlimited. As proofs method, three novel designed their functionalities validated numerically and experimentally specified directional To further illustrate superiority an all-metal low-loss metamaterial filled air demonstrated. The methodology effectively reduces design requirement for provides new ideas scenarios where large coverage needed such as microwave terahertz focus, super-resolution imaging, cloaking, so on.
